Data Capture & Collection
Computer data required for a forensic investigation can reside in many different locations and on many different systems and storage device types.
It is vital therefore that the computer forensic expert is consulted as early as possible in the case management process so that advice can be provided on what data is likely to reside where.
In many cases, data of potential interest may reside on systems that are outside the control of your client. Palmer Legal Technologies is able to advise and consult on the technical aspects of gaining access to data held by a third party, whether that be instructions on what needs to be delivered up for imaging, or on evidence available to obtain a search and seizure order or special disclosure.
Because of the normal, computer forensics processes, exact copies or images of the original computer storage devices are usually required. Copies of active files are rarely sufficient, and our experts can assist in providing technical arguments to ensure that such images are provided.
